Hey!, it is 12-13-14 for a couple hours more…Ok , no big deal. Well I wandered off of the trail a little bit. The geese remain onsite, they are moving around, foraging and resting. I revisited Frozen Point as you saw from the weak rainbow this A.M.  Plans were to visit the area that had produced several Sora and Clapper Rail sightings for me. Note to self:  Next visit will not be on a weekend.  Unlike Tuesday morning, five vehicles pulled in to the area that I had prepared to watch and wait on the rails.  People escaping the big cities come here for various types of recreation, so I gave them space. However in the process,  I documented a couple new birds.(birders call this phenomenon “ another life bird experience”).  One Horned Grebe and three Mergansers,  They are  either Common or Red  breasted

Friday 12-12-14 It is Fish Day

Friday morning dawned cloudy.  Looked like someone’s flashlight shining from above.

 

 

I started today at Frozen point of Anahuac NWR on East Bay across from Galveston in Chambers Co. TX. There were dolphins cruising about 50 yards off of Frozen Point.  No doubt, they chose fish for their Friday meal..

… So did others at the refuge

12-11-2014 visit..."It is all happening at the Refuge,"

 

Today was a departure from Goose chasing. We thought besides chasing another Bobcat, we would go after anything in the Rail family while looking on the Bay Boat ramp road. In addition to the four Rails found there was an Otter that signed his artist release.

Driving back towards the Visitor Information Station, we found a Colin Sparrow, a tardy Monarch butterfly and several Quall chicks trying to cross the road at the Wood lot. In the Shoveler pond loop, there was an abundance of Coots, Ducks, Cormorants, a few Black necked Stilts, and Hawks, just to name a few.

 

OBTW The Calico Shoveler is back!

 

 It was warm enough for the Gators to make an appearance.

 

 Like I said yesterday, "It is all happening at the Refuge,"

12-10-2014 visit

This  early morning, it was very foggy along the coast.  The intercostal water way was busy.

Later as the Sun rose over the Anahuac NWR , there was enough  ice crystals in the
 clouds and the angle of the sunlight just right gave us this 'sundog'
